Spar returns as ‘princess’ of the LF Endesa Mini Cup – La Provincia

Spar Gran Canaria returns from the Mini Cup with the crown of princesses of the tournament. They fell in the final, yes, but against the other quarry that can overshadow them a little – a little – in training ages, Movistar Estudiantes. The result, 55-61, shows the equality that the two best teams reflected of the tournament and that They were also the last two champions, so the islanders gave up their title to the Madrid team.

Aisha Mbengue, with 11 points and 10 rebounds, was the highlight of the final in terms of numbers. But all the players had their relevant role during the phases that they were overcoming until the last game. Equally important were Marilyin Oluchi, Paula Cruz, Hada Diallo, Paola Días, María Estalella, Valentina Hernández, Marta Rasines, Marta Redondo, Malena Díaz, Ana Rodríguez and María Sa.

This concludes three intense mornings with a contested first phase in which Spar Gran Canaria, Casademont Zaragoza, Movistar Estudiantes and Barça CBS emerged as champions.

Movistar Estudiantes came out better on the court, hitting the ball from the perimeter and attacking well the area set up by SPAR Gran Canaria. The Madrid team opted for individual defense and speed as soon as they captured the rebound. Luna Segovia and Adriana Ruiz were the first options in attack. The Grancacanarias were based on their physical power and the talent of players like Marta Resines and Paula Cruz.

The advantage was for Movistar Estudiantes during the first 30 minutes, with a 29-34 at halftime. But in the last quarter, SPAR Gran Canaria came back to take the lead (49-48) with seven minutes left. The student reaction arrived with a 0-7 and they showed their character to end up winning and repeating the title won in the Valencia 2022 tournament. The silver went to Spar Gran Canaria and the bronze to Barça CBS.

Huelva, for its part, continues to experience, in parallel, the Copa de la Reina, a competition that is increasingly established in the training calendar: the LF Endesa Mini Cup. The 16 teams in the competition travel with their children’s teams to measure strength. On this occasion, in Huelva, they met at the same major league hotel and played in legendary pavilions such as the Andrés Estrada, or in the very headquarters of the Queen’s Cup itself, the Carolina Marín Sports Palace.
