Spanish federation directors suspended for ‘obligatory lying about World Cup kiss’ | RTL News

Former president of the Spanish Football Association Luis Rubiales kissed player Jennifer Hermoso on the mouth last summer after the World Cup final win against England. The controversial coast has been causing a legal battle in Spain for months.

Video under duress

Yesterday, Rubiales was told that the Spanish Public Prosecution Service is demanding 2.5 years in prison against him. In a video, Hermoso previously indicated that she wanted to kiss the former association president, but that was the only time she said that. All other times she stated, including in court, that she had not consented to the kiss.

The video was allegedly made under coercion by the association’s technical director, former Ajax player Albert Luque, and marketing boss of the Spanish Football Association Rubén Rivera, the Spanish prosecutor in the case said yesterday.

Awaiting investigation

The Spanish association has therefore decided to remove the two from their positions while the investigation continues. Luque has been technical director of the Spanish association since 2022. Rubiales and then national coach Jorge Vilda are also suspected of coercion. However, they are no longer employed by the Spanish association.

Former chairman Rubiales resigned last year under great pressure and is now awaiting the judge’s ruling.
