Alexander Zverev Dominates at Miami ATP Masters, Reaches Quarterfinals

Olympic tennis champion Alexander Zverev convincingly reached the quarterfinals at the ATP Masters in Miami.

The Hamburger, seeded fourth, won his round of 16 against the Russian Karen Khachanov without any problems and in just over an hour of play 6:1, 6:4 and moved into the round of the last eight for the fourth time in his career in Miami.

“Of course I’m very happy to win 6:1, 6:4 against a player like Karen – you have to play OK. Not much went wrong. I hope I can continue to play like that,” said Zverev on “Sky”.

In the quarterfinals, the 26-year-old will face the unseeded Hungarian Fabian Marozsan. Another duel with the Spanish Wimbledon winner Carlos Alcaraz could wait in the semi-finals.

Zverev is in strong shape in Florida, the Miami finalist from 2018 gave Khachanov no chance in a new edition of the Olympic final in Tokyo 2021.

After just 27 minutes, Zverev grabbed the first set. In the second round, the German number one broke the Russian early and used his first match point to win a little later.

After reaching the quarterfinals in Indian Wells a week ago, Zverev is back in the top 5 of the world rankings for the first time since his serious ankle injury at the French Open 2022.

A year ago, the Hamburg native failed at his opening hurdle in Miami.
