Softball Star Louise McGarry Wins NÖN Athlete of the Year Award

In 2023 she was officially the best player in the domestic softball Bundesliga. Louise McGarry won the Most Valuable Player vote. As a bonus, the Crazy Chicklets actress also received the coveted silver plaque as the winner of the annual NÖN athlete election in the Wiener Neustadt district.

“The award, or just the nomination, means a lot to me because I have the feeling that softball is becoming more and more recognized in Austria.”

Third winner’s trophy for the Wiener Neustädter Baseball Club

This is also shown by the fact that Austria’s entire soft and baseball community supported McGarry in the NÖN election. This resulted in an impressive 4,462 votes.

The hardest working “poll workers” were the Crazy Chicklets, the Diving Ducks, and family and friends. McGarry is the first softball player to be successful in the NÖN Female Athlete of the Year election. Their male club colleagues Moritz Scheicher (2019) and Ferdinand Obed (2021) had previously entered the election’s winners’ lists as baseball players.

2024: Between the European Cup and the national team

As successful as 2023 was, McGarry is far from full. She has a lot planned for 2024: “There’s a lot coming up. A packed softball season with the Chicklets including European Winners Cup A, which we qualified for in 2023. The Chicklets have a lot of newcomers, so we will put a lot of work into building up these players,” and the national team also has the U22 and Women’s European Championships coming up.
