Skweek in Financial Trouble: French Basketball at Risk

The rumor has been circulating for several weeks in the microcosm of French basketball and it is The Parisian which brings the affair to light.

The OTT platform Skweek owns the rights to Betclic Elite, Euroleague, Eurocup, 3×3, partly the Women’s League and is also the main sponsor of ASVEL. Without forgetting that its owner, via FedCom Media, the naturalized Russian, Hungarian and Monegasque, Aleksey Fedorychev, is also that of AS Monaco. However, Skweek has still not reimbursed the costs of producing matches provided by 21 Productiona subsidiary of the L’Équipe group, since the start of the season. The Parisian evokes a slate of several million euros and even speaks of a fear of black screen.

“For the Basketball League the situation is worrying but it is not dramatic or lethal,” comments Philippe Ausseur, the president of the League. The subject concerns Skweek and L’Équipe and the content of what L’Équipe produces on behalf of Skweek. Unlike other balance sports (financier) of the League and our clubs does not depend on the TV contract but we regret if this has an impact on the visibility of our sport. We will be as facilitative as possible. »

It is with the L’Equipe group that the LNB signed a contract for the broadcasting of matches, not with FedCom Media. The various stakeholders would be looking for a solution to resolve this problem as quickly as possible.

“We are working with the L’Équipe group to regularize the situation as quickly as possible. We continue to work closely with the LNB and the L’Équipe group to grow French basketball and its clubs,” Skweek responded to Le Parisien in a reassuring press release.
