Brands gather for sustainable mobility at the Euro Mobility Festival

The Euro Mobility Festival is a festival dedicated to the world of sustainable mobility. It is held in Girona on the same dates as Sea Otter Europe and at the same headquarters and, in this 3rd edition, it seeks to continue consolidating its own proposal after growing by taking advantage of the pull of Sea Otter Europe itself. We have spoken with Albert Balcells, CEO of Ocisport (organizing company of the event) about the growth potential and characteristics of the Euro Mobility Festival.

«He is already creating his own personality»

There is no doubt that Sea Otter Europe (SOE) is a bike festival that works. It does so in all its aspects. The sports event, the public attendance event, the event of interest to exhibitors, the bicycle test event… year after year it has been consolidating and it is evident that it is already one of the events that brands in the world of cycling have marked in their agendas as essential. The expansion of Sea Otter Europe itself has expanded the variety of brands that want to have a presence at the festival. One of the rising sectors in recent years was that of sustainable mobility, a topic that also fits perfectly with Girona, headquarters of Sea Otter Europe, as a pioneering city aware of promoting sustainable mobility.

Seeing this growing interest from brands, the Euro Mobility Festival was born 2 years ago. The response from exhibitors and the public has been very positive and it is clear that the potential in this field is enormous: «Sea Otter Europe Costa Brava Girona by Continental is already working very well. The Euro Mobility Festival has grown together with the SOE but is already creating its own personality,” explains Balcells about the beginnings of this event.

«More brands linked to the motor world are also arriving. “We have shown that they have a way to grow and make themselves known to new clients.”

The origin of the Euro Mobility Festival is something natural: «There were already many brands that came to exhibit and that had a division oriented towards urban mobility. But within Sea Otter Europe Costa Brava Girona by Continental they showed themselves more as sports brands. There was no problem in that regard. But brands solely focused on urban mobility did not seem to fit the more sporty character of Sea Otter Europe Costa Brava Girona by Continental. But the Euro Mobility Festival arrives and they start to have their own space, with their own communication and the ability to reach the audience they are looking for. “They have more visibility and prominence.”

Seeing the nature of the Euro Mobility Festival, it is evident that it is an event that will bring new brands. But not only that, it will also mean the arrival of a new audience. «Users know that they will find bikes, technology, different forms of mobility… and we have agreements with entities focused on urban mobility. They are new actors far from the world of bicycle sports. That is why more brands linked to the world of motors are also arriving. “We have shown that they have a way to grow and make themselves known to new clients.”

That makes the Euro Mobility Festival much more than bikes. «Mobility has a much more generic concept. If we talk about cycling, it is focused on the bicycle, but in mobility we already see that there are motorcycle or car brands that are interested in being present at an event like this. Both to make yourself known in the world of urban mobility and to reach a healthy audience and environment like that of Sea Otter Europe Costa Brava Girona by Continental. We must not forget that thanks to the sports component of Sea Otter Europe Costa Brava Girona by Continental, its audience has a healthy, sporty profile, aware of the environment. The two things are very complementary.

What will you find if you want to go to the Euro Mobility Festival? Albert Balcells himself explains it to us: «you will find the leading brands in the sector, brands that are exclusive to mobility and others that are not. There are some that are very specific to the world of mobility, but others that mobility is a part of their products. So you will find a great urban bike platform. From cargobikes, bikes to take children to school, personal mobility vehicles, batteries, applications, safety issues… everything that the complementary industry represents to the world of sustainable mobility. The objective is to offer solutions in urban mobility.”

“We also see the event as a way to attract new future athletes”

The growth potential of the Euro Mobility Festival is enormous. «At Sea Otter Europe Costa Brava Girona by Continental there is some stabilization, but at the Euro Mobility Festival we are offering many new opportunities. The target audience is much larger. “Right now the two events feed off each other very well.”

Ocisport has always been associated with sporting events (among their list of organized events they have the MTB World Cup in Andorra, among the dozens of competitions they manage year after year). Now they find themselves with a new audience. «Every year we see that more people come to the fair in search of mobility solutions. These are people who perhaps would never enter SOE because of the sports aspect. A common case is to see how someone who is attracted through urban mobility ends up joining the sports side of cycling. So we also see the event as a way to recruit new future athletes.”

The Euro Mobility Festival will be held on September 20-21-22, 2024.
