Sicilian Man Caught with Baseball Bat in Car Raises Concerns during University Nightlife

He drove around with a baseball bat in his car, but not because he loved American sports. This is why a 30-year-old Sicilian got into trouble. The boy, resident in the city, was stopped on Thursday evening at the end of Viale Leopardi by a local police patrol, engaged in checks related to the university nightlife. There were four young people in the boy’s car, and the baseball bat in the trunk. At the wheel of the vehicle was a twenty-year-old Romanian, who was unable to explain why he had that piece of sports equipment. The 30-year-old Sicilian said it was his, but since none of the four were going to training, the bat was confiscated and the Sicilian was reported, given that similar tools cannot be taken out of the house except for the activity sporty. The operation is part of the control activities carried out by the local police from 7pm on Thursday until 4am on Friday, during the university nightlife, as part of the #LifeAddicted project which aims at prevention and information as fundamental tools to combat the road accidents related to the use of alcohol and drugs. Twelve motorists were subjected to a breathalyzer test, and all were found to be in order. In the historic center, the officers dealt with combating noise pollution but also with checks in construction sites and parking areas for residents, while in the peripheral areas the focus was mainly on traffic. “Urban security continues to be a priority – comments the security councilor Paolo Renna – in this case aimed at the younger segment of the population. My thanks and that of the administration goes to the local police”. “Control activities are constant to protect the population – adds local police commander Danilo Doria –, to prevent violent acts from being committed, especially among young people”.
