Of course there was a bit of fear when the robber, armed with a knife and with his face covered, entered his shop and went straight towards the cash register. Yet she remained lucid and indeed in an instant she found the courage to react. To the point of scaring the intruder away by warning him, without hesitation, that she would hit him with one men and baseball. “I felt like defending myself, I didn’t want to give it to a criminal. Fortunately, a story with a happy ending” she says Elisa Carboncinia 28-year-old who has been running his “Bimbolandia” shop for 8 years, where he sells various kinds of products for children in the hamlet of Spicchio-Sovigliana, municipality of Vinci (near Florence).
On Saturday afternoon, March 23, she found herself alone in front of the criminal. “It was 4.30pm – he recalls – a boy came in with his face covered by a hat, glasses and bandana. He clearly had no good intentions. He arrived at the cash register with a brisk pace and I immediately realized that something was wrong”.
The stranger, as also reported by the Empoli Nation which described the story, wasted no time: “He threatened me with a knife and asked me to give him the money I had immediately. However, I replied that I would not give him anything – says Carboncini -. At that point I took my mobile phone, saying that I had already launched an SOS. With the other hand I instead held a men and baseball that I had under the counter. He didn’t expect such a reaction.” And so suddenly the robber found the young owner who didn’t take a step back. And he responded keeping his cool. “I repeated to him twice that I wouldn’t give him anything and in fact I would have hit him with the bat if he hadn’t gone away. The second time he understood and ran away.” The attacker thus fled. And she then contacted the police.
Just a few days in the same area, another woman in a shop had suffered a robbery. “Maybe it was the same man who acted. In that case she had taken the money. I was therefore on alert these days, I knew there was this person going around – says the owner -. I reacted, because we are in fight every day, we put a lot of effort. And it really wasn’t right. That club was there practically from the first day I opened the shop, I almost didn’t even remember I had it.” Now Carabinieri investigators are working on the clues collected to trace the identity of the criminal.
