«We have noted with bitterness the decision of the CAS which rejected Alex Schwazer’s appeal aimed at obtaining a discount on the disqualification sanctioned at the time. We are convinced that Alex is entitled to the requested discount for the collaboration provided within the scope of the anti-doping regulations in force”, thus the walker’s lawyers, MariaLaura Guardamagna, Gerhard Brandstatter, Thomas Tiefenbrunner and Massimiliano Valcada, who added to Ansa in the evening: “We reserve the right to examine the reasons in question as soon as they become known to evaluate any new further judicial initiatives. To date there is a provision of the ordinary Italian justice system that has ruled in favor of Alex while only the Sports Justice, with related appeals to the Swiss Federal Court, has found him wrong. Alex for eight years, despite the injustices suffered, with great sacrifices in very difficult conditions, he continued to train.

He was and still is in a position to express great performances and obtain excellent results also in favor of Italian sport. We remain confident that he will ultimately be granted this legitimate and deserved opportunity.”

In the afternoon Sandro Donatithe coach who guided Alex Schwazer’s new career and who did not abandon him, commented on the sentence of the Tas of Lausanne: «I’m sorry about Alex, for his great passion and because he hoped for it until the end. Personally, I would never turn to these people, ever again. For me these people don’t exist. I always saw him full of hope that he could make it, but honestly I never thought about it, not even when he went to Rio.” On Schwazer’s possible return to competitions once the disqualification has been served, Donati concludes to LaPresse: «Alex must decide this, but I would think about it in this sense too. Anyone who knows this story knows how unclear it is, but very clear. There is a mountain of evidence and clues. These organizations are a sort of multinational that moves outside the laws.”
