Sardinian Athletes Shine at Under 20 Italian Championship in Women’s Freestyle Wrestling

The Under 20 Italian championship ended in Ostia women’s freestyle wrestling, with two Sardinian athletes who conquered the podium. A day of great sport which saw the participation of three island clubs: Shardana Judo Lotta from Silanus, Xtreme Piroddu from Sassari and Lions Club from Sassari.

The Shardana Fight of Silanusled by coach Ymbre Cocco, celebrated the silver medal Of Sofia Cocco in the 50 kg weight category. The young athlete fought three fights, losing only in the final to Angela Crapio Casarola from Como.

And bronze it is instead the spoils of Denise Pirodducoached by Mario Piroddu, of Xtreme Piroddu of Sassari. The vice-champion of Italy in the overall class of 2024 competed in the 57 kg category, winning three matches and beating Daria Cicchella from Campania in the final for third place.

Other excellent results came from Federica Masala (Shardana Lotta Silanus), fifth in the 55 kg, Giulia Garau (Lions Club Sassari), fifth nei 53 kg, and With Melissa Iacovella (Lions Club Sassari), sixth in the 65 kg.

The two medals and notable placings obtained by the Sardinian athletes confirm the growth of the women’s wrestling movement in Sardinia. A movement which, thanks to the work of athletes, coaches and clubs, is achieving increasingly important results at a national level.
