The San Marino national football team lost the friendly match 1-3 against the team from Saint Kitts and Nevis, a Caribbean archipelago which is one of the smallest and least populous states in the world. San Marino took the lead, with a goal scored from a penalty by Filippo Berardi in the 21st minute. Also in the first half, however, Tyquan Terrell and Andre Burley scored for Saint Kitts and Nevis, and the team’s third goal came in the 49th minute, scored by Harrison Panayiotou.

Unlike almost all other occasions in which he plays, in Wednesday’s match the San Marino national team was considered favorites and for the first time in a long time seemed to have real hopes of winning. It would have been the second time in its history: so far San Marino has won only one match, in April 2004, beating Liechtenstein 1-0 at home. In around 200 matches played by the San Marino national team, they scored around thirty goals and conceded more than 800.

His team is made up mostly of semi-professionals, therefore players who play in smaller Italian teams or have other jobs and consider football as a hobby.

Saint Kitts and Nevis, on the other hand, is the smallest state in the Western Hemisphere, both in terms of size and population, but despite its lack of relevance it regularly participates in international sporting competitions.

In the FIFA ranking, the ranking of the national teams made periodically by the body that governs world football, San Marino is currently in position 210 out of 210 (therefore last), while Saint Kitts and Nevis is in 147th.
