San Marino Baseball Announce Three New Player Acquisitions for 2024 Season

March 6 means, at San Marino Baseball, the official start of training. Under the orders of manager Doriano Bindi, the first available players gathered and began to work on an athletic and technical level. A first representation of athletes will be on the field, with other arrivals scheduled in the coming weeks.

In the context of the opening day, we officially announce the acquisition of three new players, who will be part of our roster for the first time. It’s about FRANCESCO POMPONI, BRIAN SEVERINO and MARCO PASCOLIwho together with Luca Di Raffaele will constitute the Afi starting line-up for the 2024 season. Pomponi and Severino have already carried out the first official training of the new season today.

Francesco Pomponi, born in 2002, has already had the opportunity to play quality innings in Serie A with the shirts of Parma, where he comes from (16.2 innings in 2023), and Oltretorrente (13 starts in 2022). In 2021 he also won the Champions Cup with Parma and at youth level he has always been a protagonist with the various national teams in the category. «It’s a start with positive sensations – says Pomponi -. I can’t wait to get to know all the other teammates, create a good group and all get to the final goal together. I want to give my best, bowl a good number of innings and give my all to the team result. Who do I know on the team? Celli and the Di Raffaele twins have been there for some time, then I was lucky enough to see all the others play in Serie A.”

For him he will be 22 years old in May, as is Brian Severino, equally new reinforcement of Mount Afi this season. Even Severino, like Pomponi, has already wet his nose in Serie A. He did so with the uniforms of Crocetta (2022) and Codogno (2023), with the latter year which saw him on the mound for 18 games (9 from departing). For him a notable tendency to leave his opponents at the plate (95 in 66 innings) and also a large use in the box (326 average with 17 runs batted in). «There are good feelings in this start – says Severino -. Being called up by a team like San Marino is an important goal, one that you imagine and dream of since you were a child. I’m very happy to be here. I like being a team player and lending a hand where it’s needed. All my commitment is in this direction, as well as wanting to learn a lot from players with great experience. My goal is to gain experience and level up as a player and as a person. The teammates? I don’t know anyone personally but I’ve obviously seen them all play.”

The third reinforcement of the Italian mountain is Marco Pascoli, 29 year old coming from Campidonico Grizzlies Torino with whom he played the last three Serie A seasons. For him a 2023 with 4 games won and 1 lost, while in the total of the three years with the Grizzlies he recorded an average Era of 3.25 with 15 total saves .
