Russell Wilson Granted Permission to Negotiate with Other NFL Teams

Even if he has not yet officially been released by the Denver Broncos, quarterback Russell Wilson can already negotiate with other NFL teams.

ESPN learned Wednesday that the Colorado organization had given permission for the 35-year-old veteran to contact other teams.

Two days earlier, the Broncos announced that they would release Wilson at the opening of the 2024 NFL season, on March 13.

The pivot only played two seasons in Denver, after being acquired at a high price from the Seattle Seahawks in March 2022. The Broncos gave three players and five draft picks, including two first-round picks, in return for Wilson and of a fourth round selection.

They also offered a five-year, $245 million contract extension to the quarterback, before he played a single game in their colors. Consequently, the Broncos will be penalized by tens of millions of dollars on their payroll over the next two campaigns.

Also according to ESPN, the Buffalo Bills will release several veterans, including cornerback Tre’Davious White and offensive lineman Mitch Morse.

The NFL Network has learned that the Washington Commanders and tight end Zach Ertz have agreed to terms on a one-year contract worth $5 million.
