Rowing: Italy wins the Paolo D’Aloja memorial – Other Sports

Italy won the 38th ‘Paolo d’Aloja’ memorial which took place at Lake Piediluco. The Italremo of technical director Francesco Cattaneo, thanks to the successes achieved in the two days of finals (55 medals with 21 gold, 19 silver, 15 bronze) won the traditional international event ahead of Greece and Romania.


In today’s regattas – informs the rowing federation -, among the seniors and lightweights the blue boats have signed eight victories, all in the Olympic specialties and with the two boats medaling at the last edition of the world championships in evidence, the senior men’s quad scull vice champion world championship of Giacomo Gentili, Luca Chiumento, Andrea Panizza and Nicolò Carucci, and the men’s lightweight doubles of Gabriel Soares and Stefano Oppo, reigning world champion bronze.


Victories also for the senior men’s duo with the team of Davide Comini and Giovanni Codato, who qualified the boat for the Paris 2024 Games in the last edition of the absolute world championships, as well as for Silvia Crosio and Stefania Buttignon, who won in the women’s lightweight doubles.


The other Italian victories come from the renewed men’s four of the Olympic bronze medalists Giuseppe Vicino, Giovanni Abagnale and Matteo Lodo with Nicholas Kohl, from the men’s singles of Davide Mumolo and from the two flagships, men’s and women’s, all specialties in which in May in Lucerne (Switzerland ), Italremo will attempt to qualify for the Paris games.


Two golds for Italy also came from the under 19 finals, with Giovanni Paoli in the men’s singles and Melissa Schincariol in the women’s.


The next international event for the Italian team on the road to Paris 2024 is in Varese, for the first stage of the World Cup, scheduled on the Schiranna basin from 12 to 14 April.
