This is a special kind of sign in Rostock!
After eleven bankruptcies in a row – most recently the Seawolves lost 86:88 in Heidelberg in the Easycredit Basketball Bundesliga – there was a crisis meeting on the Baltic Sea coast. Many were already expecting coach Christian Held (35) to be kicked out.

But after a four-hour crisis meeting on Sunday evening, the club announced: Hero can stay!
“In the current situation, it is important to tackle and overcome this challenge together as a team. Christian Held enjoys our trust for this task,” says CEO André Jürgens, explaining the measure.

And it’s not a temporary commitment: the oath of loyalty is valid until the end of the season! “We now have eleven finals ahead of us, with Christian Held as head coach of the Seawolves,” continued Jürgens.
Most recently, the Hanseatic League lost very narrowly in Weißenfels (102:106), against Berlin (75:76) and in Heidelberg (86:88). The last two games in particular slipped away from the Seawolves in the final seconds.

Held, who has been head coach in Rostock since summer 2021, almost sounds a little surprised about the job guarantee: “Such a situation is anything but normal, but rather an extremely extraordinary step. I really appreciate that,” said the coach.
His team will try to finally end the series of bankruptcies on Friday (8 p.m.). The opponent is then Bamberg. They didn’t have that much patience with their coach: Oren Amiel (52) was fired at the beginning of January – after only four bankruptcies in a row.
“Now it’s about doing everything we can to stay in the first league,” says Held combatively.
