Rodrigue Beaubois Reflects on Shocking Experiences with Dirk Nowitzki in the NBA

Member of the small cast of six French people who had the honor of being crowned NBA champions, Rodrigue Beaubois can thank Dirk Nowitzki for this. The latter also left him with vivid memories during their period together with the Mavericks.

Almost no one in Dallas has forgotten his 40-point game, achieved off the bench during his rookie season and synonymous with a big victory against the Warriors. Rodrigue Beaubois, for his part, undoubtedly keeps another memory even more preciously in memory of his time in the NBA. His four seasons across the Atlantic saw him win a championship title, which inevitably marks a player for life.

Rodrigue Beaubois still shocked by Dirk Nowitzki

Certainly unavailable during the 2011 playoffs due to an injury, Beaubois nevertheless experienced them from the inside with the Mavericks. This did not necessarily dampen his joy at becoming champion following the memorable Finals against the Heat. Invited to return to this unforgettable period in an interview given to BasketNews in 2022, the French full-back remembers the great efforts made by his teammates:

Miami was the favorite because they had a really crazy team. But somehow, we won and it was an incredible feeling to be part of this feat. I could see how much work the guys had to do. Every day you could tell they were on a mission to win the title, and it was incredible to see them do it.

This happiness experienced by his partners also proved to be communicative according to him, even if he would certainly have preferred to contribute to this coronation on the ground:

It was an incredible feeling, sensation and blessing. Same with being on a team full of such strong players with Dirk, J-Kidd and everyone else. It also remains the Mavericks’ first and only title.

A title in which Dirk Nowitzki played a huge role, he who was logically elected MVP of the Finals in the wake of the decisive Game 6. “Roddy”, who had the chance to spend four years with him, considers this dubbing a just reward:

Dirk is a great guy. I’ve been around a lot of players in my career but I’ve never seen a leader who is so open and tries to make sure everyone is involved in the team. He did everything to have some sort of connection with each player. He was always open to any type of discussion or joke. It was crazy to see a future Hall of Famer so open and accessible.

Suffice it to say that the German had both class on and off the court.

Having simply stayed in the NBA for four years, Rodrigue Beaubois is nevertheless delighted to have met Dirk Nowitzki at the Mavericks. There is no doubt that the attitude of the 2007 MVP allowed him to find his place and shine in sequence in the league.
