Roberta Di Francesco: From Beginner to Silver Medalist in Archery

It took her four years to establish herself, it was 2018 when Roberta Di Francesco, now 19 years old, from Pescara and registered with the Asd Arcieri Abruzzesi of Chieti, started shooting with a bow. She grew up quickly and with her her ambitions until she got on the podium at the world championships in Yankton, South Dakota (in the States). The competition saw the athletes compete first in a qualifying race of 144 arrows over distances varying between 10 and 60 metres, from which Di Francesco gained rightful access to the semi-final, the first rival to clash with in a sunny match 12 arrows is the Australian Grzemski, against whom she wins 65 to 57.

In the meantime, also in the other semi-final match, the Italian Aiko Rolando beat the British Piper 55 to 53. The final for the gold is thus tinged entirely in blue, providing strong emotions in a clash of the highest level, playing on the thread of parity, so much so that they had to wait for the last arrow to shoot to decide the podium, in which by one point, Rolando took the top step of the podium, Di Francesco got the silver medal while the British Piper got the bronze . This umpteenth medal on the international field is the result of a long work made up of constant training in which, with the help of his coach Gianni Di Virgilio, his family and the warm environment of the club, nothing was left to chance, and every little detail has contributed to achieving an excellent performance level.

Now Roberta Di Francesco will move to the Federal Center of Cantalupa, where with the national team coaches she will continue her preparation aiming for the goal that every athlete dreams of one day being able to achieve.
