Quisqueyan Athletes Vie for Olympic Qualification in Tbilisi Judo Grand Slam

SANTO DOMINGO. A total of four athletes will jump onto the tatami in search of continuing to add points for qualification to the Paris Olympic Games in the Judo Grand Slam that takes place this weekend in the city of Tbilisi, Georgia.

The Quisqueyan squad, consisting of the Medickson judokas of the Orbe, in minus 81 kilos; Robert Florentino, at -90, Moira Morillo, at over 78 kilos, and Eiraima Silvestre, at -78, obey their participation in the Grand Slam to the support of the Creating Olympic Dreams Group (Creso) and the International Judo Federation (FIJ) . . . .

The delegation also includes coaches Wilkin Ogando and Wander Mateo.

Del Orbe, who advanced to the second round by bye, will face the winner of the fight between Kote Kapanadze, from Georgia, and Kell Berliner, from the United States, while Florentino will face Daulat Bobonov, from Uzbekistan; Morillo will face Carali Hayme, from France, and Silvestre will fight Emma Reid, from Great Britain.

The Tbilisi Judo Grand Slam will distribute points for qualification to the Olympic Games that will take place from July 26 to August 11 of this year in Paris, France.

After Georgia there are three other Grand Slams before the Abu Dhabi World Championship (May 19 to 23): those of Turkiye, Tajikistan and Kazakhstan.
