Sports Editorial, May 26 (EFE).- Puerto Rican judoka María Pérez confirmed the love affair she has with Linz and after winning the gold medal last year, she rose again this Saturday to the top of the podium in the Austrian city, after winning in the final of the category up to 70 kilos to the Italian Irene Pedrotti.

A final that was not decided in favor of the veteran Caribbean judoka, world runner-up in 2017 in Budapest, until the ‘golden technique’ in which Pérez surprised the transalpine judoka with a spectacular ‘sweep’.

An ‘ippon’ that rounded off the Puerto Rican’s sensational performance at the Tips Arena in Linz where Pérez, a silver medalist at the Pan American Games held last year in Santiago, Chile, showed her enormous worth.

After defeating the French Teophila Darbes-Takam in the first round and the Croatian Andela Violic in her second fight, María Pérez, number 21 in the world rankings, secured her presence in the semifinals after beating the Swiss Alina Lengweiler.

A penultimate round in which María Pérez, 34, won the ‘golden technique’ over the local idol, Michaela Polleres, the current Olympic runner-up and number seven in the world rankings.

A triumph that brings the Puerto Rican, who plans to compete again at the end of March in the Tbilisi Grand Slam, closer to the Paris Olympic Games.
