Puerto del Rosario Welcomes European Indoor Archery Championships 2024 in Fuerteventura

Puerto del Rosario hosts the start of the European Indoor Archery Championships (EIAC 2024) in Fuerteventura, with the massive parade of the participating countries along the Avenida Marítima of Puerto del Rosario.

With the rhythm of the official troupe of the municipality, Puerto Samba, approximately 250 archers from 23 European countries paraded, filling the streets with the sporting spirit and cultural diversity that characterizes this event.

For the first time, the Canary Islands is hosting a sporting event of this magnitude, thanks to the International Field Archery Association (IFAA), through IFAA Spain, the Asociación Arco Libre (AAL) and the Maxoarco Sports Club.

David de Vera, mayor of Puerto del Rosario, expressed that “it is an honor to welcome more than 22 nationalities in our municipality. From the City Council and the Department of Sports we have worked hard to make this historic event possible in Fuerteventura and the Canary Islands.” The mayor added that “not only do we promote this sporting discipline, we also recognize the positive impact it will have in Puerto del Rosario and Fuerteventura, thanks to all the participants and visitors who join this championship.”

For his part, the Councilor for Sports, Juan Jiménez, stated that “for Fuerteventura and Puerto del Rosario, it is a privilege to host the European Archery Championship in all its modalities for the first time in the Canary Islands. This achievement is the result of the commitment of IFFA International, the Arco Libre Association and the Maxoarco Sports Club, who have made this large-scale event possible. We wish all the participants good luck and enjoy these days of competition in Fuerteventura.”

José Luis Martínez, vice president of Arco Libre, expressed his gratitude “for the valuable support provided by the authorities from day one. Without the effort and collaboration of the Cabildo of Fuerteventura and the town councils of Puerto del Rosario and Antigua, it would not have been possible to organize this event. I also want to highlight the enormous effort of Maxoarco and all the people who have worked for more than a year to make this championship a reality.”

Steven Kendrick, Vice President of IFAA International, shared his excitement, “We are delighted to be here at this international championship. It is an honor to visit the beautiful island of Fuerteventura. We want to encourage all participants to have fun, compete and enjoy these days. We are sure that we will return on vacation in the future as it is a truly beautiful place. “We are very proud to celebrate this championship here.”
