PSG joins OL for a 100% French semi-final – Libération

The Parisian team easily qualified on Thursday March 28 in the evening by beating the Swedes of BK Häcken 3-0 in the return match, after having already defeated them in the first leg. On paper, however, the Lyonnaises seem favorites.

There will therefore be at least one French team in the final of the premier competition this year. PSG qualified for the semi-finals of the Women’s Champions League by easily beating the Swedes of BK Häcken (3-0) on Thursday March 28 in the evening, and will meet OL in the last European four.

Thursday evening at the Parc de Princes in front of 11,600 spectators including several hundred ultras, its players succeeded in one of these important meetings by dismissing BK Häcken quite easily, without forcing too much. Last week in Sweden, they won 2-1 thanks to goals from American defender Eva Gaetino, who had another good performance on Thursday, and currently in-form striker Tabitha Chawinga.

It was again the Malawian who opened the scoring on Thursday after a great job of conserving the ball and projecting the Frenchwoman Marie-Antoinette Katoto (1-0, 27th). Top scorer and passer in the championship, Chawinga, PSG’s key player of the moment, scored her 4th goal in the Champions League and impressed with her speed and projections, whether on the left or right side.

Very close to scoring with a header after the break (50th), Katoto, very well served by Sakina Karchaoui, perfectly placed a diving uncrossed header to deceive the Swedish goalkeeper (3-0, 74th), under the eyes of the Blue coach Hervé Renard. Just before, American midfielder Korbin Albert had doubled the lead with a superb strike into the left corner from 20 meters (2-0, 70th), her 2nd goal in C1 this season.

Homophobic and transphobic content

Korbin Albert did not seem perturbed even though she was at the heart of a controversy for having shared content of a homophobic and transphobic nature, notably arousing the indignation of Megan Rapinoe, a figure in the LGBTQ + movement. “I would like to sincerely apologize for my actions on social media. Liking and sharing posts that are offensive, insensitive and hurtful was immature and disrespectful, which was never my intention,” Korbin Albert wrote on his Instagram account right after the match.

As in 2016, 2020, 2022, the Parisiennes, finalists of the 2015 and 2017 editions, will meet the Lyonnaises, eight times titled in this C1, in the semi-final. Each time, OL qualified for the final. Before this double confrontation, the two clubs have already faced each other three times this season (2 OL wins, one draw) and could also meet in the D1 play-offs.

This season, the final takes place on May 25 in Bilbao.
