Press comments on France against Germany: “The big slap in the face”

After the German national soccer team’s 2-0 win in Lyon against European Championship co-favorites France, the French media is worried.

The Team: “The big slap in the face. In Didier Deschamps’ 150th game as coach of the French national team, Germany gives Les Bleus a lesson. You didn’t see it coming, least of all to this extent, this absolute lesson (…) and this evening without lights.”

South West: “Going behind very quickly, Didier Deschamps’ players allowed themselves to be overwhelmed by the Germans’ efficiency (…). (…) In addition to the track from start to finish, without soul and without idea, Les Bleus suffered a defeat against Germany, which is a disgrace three months before the European Championship.

Latest News from Alsace: “This defeat, this slap in the face three months before the European Championships, is a serious warning.”

The Parisian: “Rightly beaten by the German dominators, Les Bleus never took place on the Lyon pitch this Saturday evening. Didier Deschamps’ players failed in many areas. Burdened by a nightmarish start (…), the Équipe de France failed to keep its head above water.”

The Liberation: “The Germans are burning, Les Bleus are going astray. The (German) team has definitely become the Bleus’ feared opponents again. (…) Florian Wirtz’s supersonic goal, one of the fastest in international football, showed France’s deficits compared to its old rival, even though France was in a sporting crisis before the duel.

Le Figaro: “Outclassed by Germany, Les Bleus get a real slap in the face. False start for the Blues. A result and a poor performance that is worrying three months before the European Championships. Rightly beaten, the Équipe de France did not show such a sad face throughout 2023.”

The world: “Outclassed by the (German) team, the Blues begin their path to the European Championship in pain. (…) A team like the French fails for a reason. If she had such a big problem, it was mainly because Germany played a great game.”

West France: “The disturbing shipwreck of the Blues, spooky. An embarrassing defeat three months before the European Championships.”
