President of the US House of Representatives criticizes AMLO’s immigration proposal – El Sol de México

The president of the United States House of Representatives, Republican Mike Johnson, described President Andrés Manuel López Obrador’s immigration proposal as “absurd” this Monday, and said that Mexico should be “forced” to cooperate.

Johnson thus responded on social networks to López Obrador’s interview with the CBS network in which he asked that the United States invest 20 billion dollars annually for the development of Latin America, lift the sanctions on Venezuela, end the embargo on Cuba and regularize to Mexicans in their territory to stop immigration.

“President Andrés Manuel López Obrador’s proposal to increase border security is absurd,” reproached the Republican, who stated that the United States is suffering a “humanitarian catastrophe.”

According to Johnson, López Obrador is “coddling the cartels” and is “demanding that the United States finance mass migration” to US territory.

For this reason, he urged the president of the United States, Democrat Joe Biden, to put aside “empty rhetoric” and follow in the footsteps of former Republican president Donald Trump, who in his opinion did know how to use his “influence” over Mexico.

“We should use all our influence to force the Mexican government to cooperate,” Johnson stressed.

Migration crossings on the border between Mexico and the United States, which last year reached a record number, have become a central issue of the US presidential campaign in November, in which Biden will seek re-election against Trump, who He has a marked anti-immigration speech.
