President Aurelio De Laurentiis of SSC Napoli Sparks Controversy Ahead of Champions League Showdown with FC Barcelona

President Aurelio De Laurentiis of SSC Napoli freaked out the day before the second leg of the Champions League round of 16 against Spanish champions FC Barcelona.

The 74-year-old club boss of the southern Italians quickly canceled an interview with his midfielder Matteo Politano at the Estadi Olímpic Lluis Companys and physically attacked a cameraman.

Barça and Napoli face each other on Tuesday evening, with the obligatory media obligations taking place the day before. After Napoli coach Francesco Calzona had already spoken to Sky, Matteo Politano was also in the middle of an interview with the TV channel when De Laurentiis suddenly intervened. He pulled the Italy international away and shouted: “Politano! Politano! You shouldn’t talk to them!” A situation that also caused astonishment in the Sky studio.

But that’s not enough. A video is circulating on social media that shows the whole scene from a different perspective. In it you can clearly see De Laurentiis pushing away a Sky cameraman after a verbal argument full of gestures.

It is still unclear why De Laurentiis suddenly has an aversion to Sky. However, it is not the first time that the powerful club boss has imposed an embargo on journalists. After the Serie A duel with Juventus (2-1) a few days ago, he instructed his players not to speak to DAZN reporters from now on.

In a press conference after the game, De Laurentiis himself announced this decision, but without giving any reasons: “We have concluded with DAZN: from now on we will talk to Rai and Sky.”

According to Corriere della Sera, this refusal resulted in a fine of around 100,000 euros imposed by Lega Serie A for violating television rights contracts.

Sky reacted to De Laurentiis’ outburst with incomprehension. Direct Federico Ferri wrote in X: “Who does Sky Sport’s interviews will be decided by Sky Sport. I am speechless about what happened to our journalist and our cameraman: I condemn it without further comment. One thing is certain: we will carry on as before, with professionalism “, Rigor, Credibility. And Education”.

In terms of sport, things will get interesting on Tuesday evening from 9 p.m. when Napoli fights with Barça for a place in the quarter-finals of the premier class. After the 1-1 draw in the first leg in Naples, everything is still open.
