Portrait of Darkness: The Tragic Tale of Priscillia H. and the Murder of Alaïs Ragot

It’s difficult to imagine a darker portrait than the one portrayed by Priscillia H. at the helm. At the time of the events, she was the companion of Quentin Robert, who hanged himself in prison around ten days before the opening of the trial, before the Assize Court of Hérault this Monday, during which he had to appear to have beaten to death Alaïs Ragot, a 19-year-old prostitute for whom he had been the pimp, on the night of February 9 to 10, 2020, at her home, a stone’s throw from Saint-Roch station

A succession of traumas

Priscilla H., 32, sums up her life as a series of misfortunes. Parents too young to take care of her and later, a stepfather who committed physical and sexual violence. She herself met a man, when she was 17, with whom she had two children whom she took with her when she fled, after being hit with a baseball bat which sent her to the hospital.

Battered child then battered woman

She took refuge in the south of France, in Béziers, where she met Quentin Robert through an acquaintance at the end of 2019. He admitted to her that he was a pimp but that he wanted to change his life. They will have a relationship, brief, just before the facts. “But what did you like about him?” asks Sylvie Gossent, the president of the court. “He gave me a lot of attention” confides the accused. Since 2017, she has been convicted several times for driving without a license and once, in 2022, for being a mule: arrested with 2.8 kg of cannabis resin from Spain.

“I would like to ask for forgiveness even though I know it is unforgivable” – Priscillia H.

Priscilla H., will meet Driss N, her co-accused, also in Béziers, one day when he sold her cannabis, which the person concerned refutes. He was indeed convicted of possession, transport and use of drugs in 2017, but the 27-year-old presents himself as a user and not a trafficker. No other mention in his criminal record.

“Two major uprootings” according to the personality survey

He was born in Morocco where he lived until the age of seven, before emigrating to Italy with his family, in the Modena region. In 2013, after an earthquake and when he was 16 years old, a new start, direction Béziers. The teenager at the time, who did not speak French, adapted rather well. The president of the court notes that he was bathed in “a well-structured family environment”.

“I assume my responsibilities but I never wanted Alaïs to die” – Driss N.

However, in 2019, there is a clear divide: school dropouts with repeated absences. Driss N. has no other explanation than “bad Company”of the “bad choice”. His father, called to the stand, guarantees that his son has returned to the right path. He asks for authorization before turning to those close to Alaïs Ragot to present his “condolences” and tell them that it is “so sorry”.

Even though he didn’t strike a blow, Driss N. is accused of having done nothing to prevent the massacre while he held in check two witnesses present, with a BB gun, in Alaïs’ apartment. As for Pricillia H., her accusers believe that she facilitated the punitive expedition by “recruiting” Driss N. and serving as driver, knowingly.
