On Friday, the Pittsburgh Steelers shipped quarterback Kenny Pickett across the state, trading him, along with the 120th pick in the 2024 NFL draft, to the Philadelphia Eagles for the 98th pick and two future seventh-round picks.

The move was made as part of a restructuring of the Steelers’ quarterback room during the offseason. Pittsburgh signed quarterback Russell Wilson to a one-year contract on March 15and the veteran Steelers player, Mason Rudolph formally signed with the Tennessee Titans on Friday.

Pickett had initially accepted the possibility of a competition for the number one spotaccording to Sports Illustrated, but apparently changed his tune after Wilson’s arrival. His mishandling of the situation influenced the Steelers’ decision to trade him.according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Drafted 20th overall out of the University of Pittsburgh, making him the highest-drafted Steelers quarterback since Ben Roethlisberger, Pickett went 14-10 in two seasons. While he led several late-game comebacks, proving resilient amid offensive personnel changes, he also totaled just 13 touchdowns in 24 games. Injuries sidelined him several times in 2023, and the Steelers then sidelined him in favor of Mason Rudolph for his only playoff appearance.
