History Made: Two Goals Scored in Less Than Ten Seconds in International Friendlies

During Saturday’s international friendly match, two curious situations were recorded that will go down in the football record books, as two goals were scored in less than ten seconds. The German Florian Wirtz and the Austrian Christoph Baumgartner made history and were the protagonists of the FIFA date.

At the Groupama Stadium in the city of Lyon, Germany surprised France and defeated the world runners-up 2-0. Wirtz opened the scoring with a goal 7 seconds into the match. The Bayer Leverkusen player took a powerful shot from outside the area that grazed the crossbar and left goalkeeper Brice Samba immobile. It was the fastest goal in the history of the German team, surpassing Lukas Podolski’s goal against Ecuador in 2013, at 9 seconds.

Those led by Julian Nagelsmann extended the lead in the 49th minute with a goal from Kai Havertz. Kylian Mbappé was a starter and captain in Didier Deschamps’ team, but he did not gravitate in the game with any of his attacking partners such as Marcus Thuram and Ousmane Dembélé.

The other record was in Bratislava, where the local Slovakia team fell 2-0 to Austria. Only 6 seconds passed on the clock when Christoph Baumgartner opened the scoring, thus achieving the earliest celebration in the history of the national teams.

The red team moved from the center of the field and Baumgartner took the ball and faced forward. He took three players off of him and took a shot with his right foot that went in close to the post. The Austrians increased the difference thanks to Andreas Weimann, in the 82nd minute.

“It is a great joy. We have rehearsed this play several times, going forward from the kickoff. The situation turned out in such a way that I was able to start running. Then I thought it wouldn’t hurt to try a shot after a few seconds. That then it went in and it was a world record, of course it makes me very happy,” said the player with the record goal.

In another of the day’s high-profile friendlies, Brazil won 1-0 over England at Wembley thanks to a goal from young Endrick, in the 80th. The 17-year-old striker, who had entered ten minutes earlier for Rodrygo, took advantage of a Jordan Pickford rebounded after a Vinicius shot and had his baptism in the net for the five-time champion.

In addition, the Uruguayan team led by Marcelo Bielsa drew 1-1 on their visit to the Basque Country against the local team. The goal for La Celeste was scored by Matías Vecino, at 46 minutes. In other friendlies, Ireland-Belgium, Denmark-Switzerland and Tunisia-Croatia ended tied 0-0.
