Piacenza’s Bakery Hosts Sant’Antimo in Support of Women’s Week: The Red Bench Initiative

For the twenty-eighth day of the National Serie B Lnp Old Wild West 2023/2024 championship, Bakery Piacenza hosts Sant’Antimo at the Largo Anguissola sports hall. The game will be played on Sunday at 6pm, and for the occasion, president Caterina Zanardi’s club will take to the field for the women.

The red bench initiative

During the warm-up phases and at half-time, a red bench will be positioned in the middle of the pitch as a sign shared with the public and teams for Women’s week. Furthermore, the activities of the Piacenza Anti-Violence Center will be presented, which every day is committed to supporting women in difficulty, with the participation of local institutions. For all women, entry to the match is on promo for just €1, and the public is invited to attend the match wearing a pair of red shoes to demonstrate their solidarity.

The moment of Bakery Piacenza

Bakery arrives at this match after having achieved two very important victories against Gema Montecatini and Brianza Basket. Two successes that allowed the red and whites to resume their quest for salvation, so much so that if the championship ended today it would be fully achieved. With the same points and with the direct clashes in favor with Omegna and Cassino, with Desio two points down and with Rieti six points further away, the Piacenza team would not even qualify for the playouts. And thanks to the latest victory against Brianza, rising to 24 points and with seven rounds remaining, mathematically they can no longer finish last given that Caserta is stuck at eight.

However, without making calculations, we need to focus on the next opponent, namely Sant’Antimo who, despite being defeated in the last match played, remains one of the fittest teams. In the first leg Mastroianni and his teammates beat the Neapolitan team: it was November 26th, a date that coincided with Piacenza’s last victory away from home. After 98 days of abstinence, coach Salvemini’s men returned to celebrate away from the PalaBakery by storming the Brianza pitch.

Ludovico Bazzoni, red and white assistant coach

«We certainly expect a very demanding and tough match, which will be important for both teams. For our part, we are coming from a positive moment, with two victories, the last of which was away which saw us play a very good performance. This gives us energy and allows us to focus on what the next objective is, also knowing that the break for the Italian Cup will then come. This is why we want to do our utmost to close this period in the best possible way. Compared to the first leg we are two teams that have changed, quite a lot, and for this reason I expect a match where great attention will be needed. We will have to be good at managing moments”.
