Phoenix Hagen Extends Marvin Omuvwie’s Contract: A Vote of Confidence In a Painful Time

Hagen. Phoenix Hagen ties up the long-term injured Marvin Omuvwie. “He is part of this success story,” says Phoenix boss Martin Schmidt.

It’s a vote of confidence in a painful time for a professional basketball player: basketball second division team Phoenix Hagen has the contract with his winger Marvin Omuvwie extended for another year. The 26-year-old will enter his third season at Ischeland in the 2024/25 season – although he only made two short appearances this season due to persistent pubic bone inflammation. Phoenix announced this on Sunday evening during the home game against Frankfurt.

“We are convinced of what he gives us in terms of play, but also of what he brings to Phoenix Hagen as a person,” says Phoenix managing director Martin Schmidt, praising the forward from Berlin. “We have incredible team chemistry this year and Marvin contributes to that. He is part of this success story. We are very happy that he has placed his trust in us – and he will definitely give us a lot again next year, both offensively and defensively.”

Part of the Phoenix family

Marvin Omuvwie has been working on his comeback every day since the beginning of this ProA season. He is closely looked after by the Kö40 therapy center. In his first season with Phoenix (2022/2023), the defensive specialist had 6.4 points and 3.8 rebounds (35 games). “I feel very comfortable here and am very happy to be part of the Phoenix family again next season,” says the BBL-experienced winger. “I can’t wait to see how the site continues to grow. Both on and off the floor.”

In addition to Marvin Omuvwie, forward Tim Uhlemann also has a valid player contract for next season. The contracts of all other players expire this summer.
