Patrick Mahomes restructuring contract to help Kansas City Chiefs achieve dream of three-time championship

The three-time championship in the NFL is a dream since no team has achieved it despite the fact that eight franchises have won titles in consecutive seasons. However, the Kansas City Chiefs want to make it a reality and that is why quarterback Patrick Mahomes has modified his contract so that management has flexibility to add new players for the 2024 season.

Based on a report from ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Mahomes has decided to restructure his contract so that the Chiefs have $21.6 million more cap space. The Kansas City quarterback converted $27 million in compensation into a signing bonus.

This means the $27 million signing bonus will be deferred against the Chiefs’ salary cap for years to come. Therefore, according to Spotterits impact on Kansas City’s salary cap will go from 37 million in 2024 to 66.2 in 2025 and 68.6 in 2026.

The Texas Tech graduate is under contract through the end of the 2031 NFL season, but has an impact on the salary cap for two more years; in both 2023 and 2033 it will be 60 million.
