Paris 2024 Olympics: Luis Enrique says he is “fairly open” to the participation of PSG players in the Games

This is one of the questions that has agitated the world of French football recently and it was bound to be asked at some point. It came this Saturday during the press conference before the clasico between OM and PSG and Luis Enrique’s response should reassure the coach of the French Olympic team Thierry Henry.

Asked to comment on the provision of Paris Saint-Germain players for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, the coach of the Parisian club said he was “fairly open” to their participation, recalling that he himself had won the Olympic Games with Spain, in Barcelona, in 1992. The Seleccion then beat Poland in the final (3-2).

“There is also the freedom of the player which comes into account. I am quite open but we must protect the rights of the club and I am here to defend the rights of my club,” he nevertheless specified. “I don’t own the players, the players have a contract with the club. »

“We must study each case individually”

“What is certain is that each case must be studied individually. It’s difficult to string together the Euro and the Olympic Games, it might not make much sense because the players have responsibilities towards their club,” he said.

This remark concerning the Euro-JO sequence necessarily makes us think first of Warren Zaire-Emery within the Parisian squad. “Personally, it doesn’t scare me,” the young midfielder said last week, saying he was ready to play in both competitions provided, of course, that his club agrees.

Bradley Barcola, who was injured during the U23 match against Ivory Coast last week, is another player from the capital club tipped to play in the Games.

As for Kylian Mbappé, who has expressed the wish to leave PSG, he should no longer be under contract with the Parisian club at the time of the Olympics and will therefore have to negotiate his release with his future club.
