Owen Farrell does not close the door on a possible international return

The fly-half, who will join Racing 92 next season, does not rule out a return to the international scene.

“I didn’t say anything, I don’t know”said fly-half Owen Farrell, who decided to take a break from the England rugby team to recharge his batteries mentally after the 2023 World Cup, when asked on Wednesday about a possible return to the international scene. “I took a step back and there is obviously a change coming next season (moving to France where he will join Racing 92 in the Top 14, Editor’s note)). Then we will see”he continued during a press conference at the training center of Saracens, his club in northwest London.

“There’s no point saying anything now because I don’t know how I’m going to feel later. We will see”, insisted the Saracens opener, 32, top scorer in the history of the XV de la Rose (1,237 points in 112 caps). According to the current criteria of the English Federation, Farrell, who will join Racing 92 in the French championship next season, is theoretically no longer selectable with the England team.

On the other hand, he is authorized to defend the colors of the British and Irish Lions, of which his father, Andy Farrell, the current coach of Ireland, has been appointed coach for their next tour to Australia during the summer of 2025.

When he announced at the beginning of January that he would not play in the Six Nations Tournament, that England finished in 3rd place, the coach of the XV de la Rose, Steve Borthwick, described his absence as “hard blow”.
