Overwatch 2 Midseason Patch: Buffs Galore for Tanks and More in March 12 Update

In the midseason balance patch for Overwatch 2’s ninth season, buffs are everywhere, many of which go to tanks. While heroes across all classes have been changed, the affected tanks are likely to feel the benefits the most. Tanks have been more frustrating to play due to the changes to hero health and projectile sizes, so this new patch could alleviate that feeling.

Here are all the new changes in the March 12 Overwatch 2 midseason patch.

Overwatch 2: March 12 patch notes

Projectiles change again with a reduction from 0.1 to 0.075 meters for “projectiles traveling at speeds greater than 50 meters per second.”

“We are reducing the size of the fastest travel projectiles because this will reduce the frequency of these projectiles failing to hit the head because they hit the opponent’s chest volume first,” said Blizzard. Rejoice, tank mains. Several tanks received some nice buffs in the new patch, so it appears Blizzard has heard all the complaints about this role being “miserable” to play in Season 9.

Buffs for tanks include an increase in Reinhardt’s armor and the damage of his Fire Blast (from 100 to 120), an increase in the damage of Ramattra’s Ravenous Vortex and a reduction in its cooldown, buffs to Mauga’s Overrun Stomp damage, and changes to his Cardiac Overdrive, as well as an increase in Doomfist’s minimum damage for his ultimate Meteor Strike.

Finally, long-awaited balancing

Tanks weren’t the only heroes buffed, however. DPS heroes that received slight buffs include Hanzo (increasing projectile size to compensate for global reduction), Mei (increasing ammo amount and healing per second in Cryofreeze), Reaper (reducing ultimate cost and increasing damage per second) and others.

Overall, however, damage heroes will receive a very slight nerf to their passive damage ability. It will now reduce healing by 15 percent, rather than 20 percent as at the start of Season 9. That’s quite a difference!

“The Damage Roll passive reduces the strength of healing in combat and helps balance the effectiveness between burst and damage over time,” Blizzard said. “Nevertheless, we will experiment with a lower value to ease some pressure on tank and support roles. We will keep a close eye on this change as we want the reduction in healing to still be noticeable.”

Support Heroes, you weren’t left out. Brigitte (reducing repair pack cooldown and gathering cost reduction), Illari (reducing primary fire recovery time), and Lifesaver (increasing maximum healing amount by 10) have also received some nice little buffs.
