Ottawa University Women’s Flag Football Team Dominates Southwestern College 47-0, Prepares for Matchup Against St. Thomas University

History

OTTAWA, Kan. – The Ottawa University women’s flag football team defeated Southwestern College 47-0 on Wednesday night at AdventHealth Field.

The Braves forced a punt on Southwestern’s first offensive possession of the game and OU’s offense took over on its own 14 yard line.

OU put together a six play, 66 yard scoring drive that ended in a Madysen Carrera 25 yard touchdown pass to Alyssa Linkous. The extra point attempt was good and with 3:31 on the clock, OU led 7-0.
Southwestern didn’t have the ball for long on its second offensive possession of the game. Faron Malouff had the one handed interception at the Brave 21 yard line and OU’s offense took over with 1:31 left in the first quarter.

One pass and a lateral later, Cynthia Homs was in the end zone for the touchdown. The extra point attempt was good and the Braves had a 14-0 lead with 11:50 remaining in the half.

The OU defense forced another Moundbuilder turnover. Hailee McKay intercepted the ball and then lateralled it to Teliyah McInnis for the touchdown. The extra point attempt was no good and OU led 20-0 at the 8:41 mark in the second quarter.

After a punt by Southwestern and an interception by Ottawa, the Moundbuilders took over with 3:32 left in the half. Ottawa’s Alyssa Gillespie sacked the SWC quarterback in the end zone for the safety, giving OU the 22-0 lead with 3:22 left in the first half.

The Braves received the ball after the safety and drove it to the SWC 14 yard line. Southwestern was called for a penalty and OU received an untimed down at the SWC seven yard line. Carrera threw a seven yard touchdown pass to Homs and Ottawa took a 28-0 lead into the locker room.

Ottawa continued to put points on the score board in the second half. OU opened the third quarter with a five play, 66 yard drive that ended in a Carrera pass to Madisen Berg and then a lateral to Mya Quinn for the touchdown. The extra point attempt was no good and OU had a 34-0 lead with 9:24 left in the third quarter.

The OU defense forced another Moundbuilder punt and the Brave offense took over on its own 30 yard line. Ottawa’s offense put together a six play, 40 yard drive that ended in a Carrera touchdown pass to Mar Matin-Claros. The extra point attempt was good and OU led 41-0 with 2:25 remaining in the third quarter.

OU scored one more touchdown in the game, taking a 47-0 lead with 10:07 to go in the fourth quarter. Marley Spielberg threw a seven yard touchdown pass to Jazlyn Camacho and the Braves took the lead and the game, 47-0.

Ottawa (5-0) will now participate in the Reinhardt Tournament in Waleska, Ga., Friday, March 15 and Saturday, March 16. OU will play St. Thomas University on Friday at 1:15 p.m. (cst) and on Saturday, Keiser University at 9:45 a.m. (cst) and Thomas University 1:15 p.m. (cst).
