Manchester City became the first club to win the Premier League for the fourth time in a row. Pep Guardiola’s team won the long-distance duel with Arsenal FC on the last matchday. The three promoted teams go straight back to the second division.

Manchester City won the Premier League for the fourth time in a row. Coach Pep Guardiola’s team completed their title defense with a 3-1 (2-1) win over West Ham United. Competitors FC Arsenal, who would have needed help from the “Hammers” for the championship, achieved a 2-1 (1-1) draw against Everton FC in front of their own crowd on the last match day of the season. Kai Havertz scored the late winning goal for the Gunners (89th).

Competitors City and Arsenal were separated by just two points before the season finale. Because Arsenal had the better goal difference, the team could have moved ahead if they had drawn in Manchester. However, the Gunners initially fell behind through Idrissa Gueye (40th). When Takehiro Tomiyasu equalized (43′) and the news of West Ham’s connection made the rounds in the stands, there was a brief hope in London. Havertz’s winning goal in the 89th minute was worthless in the end.

The Cityzens, who had previously been unbeaten in 22 league games, got off to a lightning start in front of their home crowd. Double packer Phil Foden (2nd/18th minute) took the lead shortly after kick-off and increased the lead for the oppressively superior defending champions, with German goalkeeper Stefan Ortega standing between the posts. West Ham’s Mohammed Kudus (42nd) made things exciting for a short time with his somewhat surprising goal before Rodri (59th) made the decision.

Luton, Burnley and Sheffield relegated
