Opening Games in New York and Philadelphia Postponed Due to Weather Conditions

NEW YORK — Opening games scheduled in New York and Philadelphia were postponed until Friday due to weather conditions.

Pete Alonso and the New York Mets were scheduled to host the Milwaukee Brewers on Thursday afternoon, the first day all Major League Baseball clubs are scheduled to be in action this season. The Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres kicked off the campaign with a two-game series in Seoul, South Korea, last week.

Sustained rain, however, is expected Thursday in Queens, and the Mets announced Wednesday that their home opener has been postponed until Friday around 1:40 p.m.

Minutes later, the Philadelphia Phillies announced that their sold-out home opener against the Atlanta Braves was moved from Thursday to Friday, at 3:05 p.m., due to Mother Nature.
