Olympic Preparations in Paris Marred by Security Concerns: Taiwanese Badminton Delegation’s Troubling Experience

A few months before the Olympic Games, Paris’ reputation is already tarnished. A daily article the Parisian dated March 11 reports the mishaps encountered by the Taiwanese badminton delegation during a recent stay in the French capital on the occasion of the French Open which took place from March 5 to 10.

More than the sporting performance, it is mainly the Parisian stay which will have marked Tai Tzu Ying, third badminton player in the world. The Taiwanese star also holds the record for longevity at first place in the world rankings in women’s singles (214 weeks).

Indeed, during the competition taking place in the new Adidas Arena, Tai Tzu Ying was housed in a hotel in the 18th arrondissement of Paris. Located near the Porte Montmartre, the place clearly had security gaps…

Attempted intrusion into a hotel room in Paris

On March 4, the Taiwanese badminton player shared her fear on Instagram: “Someone opened the bedroom door in the middle of the night and we even tried to get in”.

Faced with this attempted intrusion by an unidentified individual into his hotel room, Tai Tzu Ying had the reflex to barricade himself with various objects and furniture from the hotel room. Quite logically, the renowned sportswoman conceded on her social networks that “The neighborhood seemed dangerous. »

Taiwanese coach has his luggage stolen

But Tai Tzu Ying is not the only member of the Taiwanese delegation to have increased precautions in this 18th arrondissement of Paris. Yang Po Han, 26th player in the world in men’s doubles, also decided to reinforce the closure of his hotel room door with rackets…

Finally, Lee Yang’s coach would have had one of his luggage stolen. According to Current values quoting an interview relayed by Radio Taiwan International, the coach explained that the events occurred when they arrived by bus at the hotel from the airport.

As for the response from the town hall of the 18th arrondissement of Paris following these facts, it is worth the detour: according to her, these incidents “ have no connection with the Adidas Arena and the Porte de la Chapelle »… Can’t wait for the Olympics!
