ÖJV Judo Team Competes in Grand Slam in Antalya Ahead of Olympic Qualification

Easter as a family celebration? None! A 16-member ÖJV team travels to the Grand Slam and a subsequent four-day training camp in the Turkish capital Antalya. Reason: The Olympic qualification is entering its final phase and with the European Championships in Zagreb at the end of April and the World Cup in Abu Dhabi in May, there are still two pre-Olympic highlights on the program. In any case, there is no thought of Easter contemplation… Instead, it’s a matter of collecting as much competition experience and world rankings or Olympic qualification points as possible.

Judo Austria is not alone: ​​a total of 654 judoka from 94 nations have registered for the Grand Slam, including five world number one (Assunta Scutto/ITA/-48, Diyora Keldiyorova/UZB/-52, Christa Deguchi/CAN/-57 , Catherine Beauchemin-Pinard/CAN/-63, Barbara Matic/CRO/-70) and four Tokyo Olympic champions (Uta/-52 and Hifumi/-57 Abe, Takanori Nagase/-81, Aaron Wolf/-100/ all JPN). The largest delegations are made up of hosts Turkey (37 active participants), Germany (23) and Brazil (21).

With Michaela Polleres (-70/JC Sparkasse Wimpassing/NÖ/number 3) and Lubjana Piovesana (-63/LZ Hohenems/V/8) two red-white-red athletes are seeded.
