ÖFB team without Sabitzer against Turkey

Austria’s national team will have to do without Marcel Sabitzer in the European Championship friendly against Turkey in Vienna on Tuesday evening (8:45 p.m., live on ORF1). According to the ÖFB, the midfielder from Borussia Dortmund is ill with flu-like symptoms and is not in the squad.

Romano Schmid starts in his place. The 24-year-old from Werder Bremen was preferred over Patrick Wimmer, who, according to team boss Ralf Rangnick, was also an issue for the starting eleven.

Otherwise, Rangnick, without the injured stars David Alaba and Marko Arnautovic, is relying on the strongest formation currently available, as announced. There are five changes compared to Saturday’s 2-0 win in Slovakia. Regular goalkeeper Alexander Schlager returns to the goal instead of Patrick Pentz.

Stefan Posch and Maximilian Wöber start in defense instead of Stefan Lainer and youngster Leopold Querfeld. In addition to Schmid instead of Sabitzer, Xaver Schlager starts in midfield instead of Florian Grillitsch. Konrad Laimer acts as ÖFB captain.
