ÖBB S’Cool 2024: A Week of Skiing Excellence

VIENNA. What a brilliant week of skiing! This is the summary of the feedback from the participating schools at ÖBB S’Cool 2024. The simplified organization and the wide range of skiing-related activities such as talent competitions, karaoke evenings, final races and parties, swimming, climbing and much more. make you really looking forward to the winter sports week. “With our well-coordinated organization, we can take away the teachers’ worries about the support staff, as responsibility for a large group is also a big challenge,” says Julia Verhounig, the managing director responsible for ÖBB S’ “Cool”.

Olympic alert and long-distance hunting
One of the highlights was Austria’s ski jumping legend Thomas Morgenstern, who showed courageous jumping kids his tips and tricks for ski jumping, which they were able to put into practice on the “Vienna Airport Ski Jump”. For every meter flown, Riedergarten Immobilien donated one euro to Caritas for Carinthian students in the form of school start checks. At the end, the check was generously rounded up to 2,500 euros.

Beginners in a state of happiness
Many ski rookies were also able to be convinced of winter sports as part of ÖBB S’Cool. Around 200 ski and 150 snowboard beginners had their first contact with a slope and were bitten by the “ski fever”. “When, if not now,” is how one participant puts it. “Without this experience I would never have gotten into skiing. Only now do I know how awesome it feels to glide along in nature.” All non-skiers also spent a week in the snow doing snow volleyball, snow canoeing, snow judo and many other fun activities. The Austria Vienna football group also practiced diligently on the mountain in the beautiful sunshine.

Sustainable mobility with ÖBB
As always, the arrival and departure worked perfectly thanks to our partner ÖBB. “For 10 years now, we have been a proud partner and main sponsor of Europe’s largest school ski course event, which attracts around 1,500 participants every year. With a varied program, we offer students a unique winter sports week concept. It is also important to us to show young people that sustainable travel by train and bus is also ideal for winter sports weeks. With ÖBB S’Cool, we not only want to offer students an unforgettable experience in the snow, but also achieve the common goal of dealing responsibly with our environment and take the step towards sustainable mobility with them,” says Sabine Stock, CEO of ÖBB-Personenverkehr AG.

“Inclusion is also an important topic for us; we had two children with physical disabilities with us. The two had a great time in their classroom. Of course we will continue to support this next year; together with the schools, a lot is possible. In general, after the good feedback this year, we are already looking forward to ÖBB S’Cool 2025,” concludes Verhounig.
