“Nottingham Forest” is deducted four points for violating the financial rules of the Premier League

The Premier League said in a statement that Nottingham Forest had admitted breaching the £61m (€71.4m) threshold under profitability and sustainability regulations by £34.5m (€403.8m).

It is the second Premier League team to be penalized for this type of infringement this season. In November, Liverpool’s Everton received a 10-point penalty, which was reduced to six points on appeal.

Everton are still waiting to see if they will be handed another penalty for another offence, deducting points in the standings.

Clubs are allowed losses of £105m (€122.9m) over a three-year period, but these are reduced by £22m (€25.7m) a season for each season spent in the second tier of the Championship – the Championship.

In May 2022, “Nottingham Forest” entered the Premier League, which means that the club was a Championship club for two of the three seasons during the evaluation period.

The two-time European Cup champions can appeal the punishment, with the Premier League previously saying the process must “come to a close no later than May 24 and if possible some time before that”, which is five days after the final weekend of the Premier League season.

The club issued a statement in January following the allegations that it was “confident of a quick and fair solution”.

Nottingham Forest’s penalty means that the club is in the relegation zone with 21 points from 29 games, occupying 18th place among 20 teams. Nottingham is one point behind Luton Town and four points behind Everton, but four points ahead of nearest followers Burnley.
