The players from the A Estrada Badminton Club Rubén Comeròn and Iziar Barcala participated last weekend in the Top Master N°1 for the U-19 category, one of the most important after the Spanish championship, which was held in Palos de la Frontera in Huelva.
Rubén Comeròn competed in the men’s doubles category with Raúl Bergua, a Ravachol player, and, although they played some good matches, they did not manage to advance from the group.
Iziar Barcala, for his part, participated in the doubles category with Carmen Carro del Ravachol. Together they reached the semi-finals, where they lost to the Ibizan couple formed by Sofía and Carmen María, winning the bronze medal.
In the individual category, Iziar defeated Carla Hernán, Angela Jiménez and Marta Calvo, and reached the final, where she faced her doubles partner Carmen Carro, whom she defeated in two sets by 21-9 21-11. She thus proclaimed herself the winner of a top-level U-19 tournament, while she was still a U-17 player.
The Estrada team congratulated both players for their performance, fully consolidated among the best rackets in Spain. Badminton A Estrada is now preparing to organize the Spanish Senior Badminton Championship, a competition that will be held between May 3 and 5 in the Coto Ferreiro pavilion.
