Niners Chemnitz vs. Alba Berlin: A Top Game in the Basketball Bundesliga

On Sunday there will be a real top game in the Basketball Bundesliga (BBL). Then the Niners Chemnitz meet Alba Berlin. It starts in Chemnitz at 5 p.m.

League leaders Chemnitz are having a really strong season. After 24 match days they have a record of 20:4. In the last seven BBL games there were six wins and only one defeat. Last Sunday, the Niners Chemnitz successfully defended their lead in the table against FC Bayern Munich. The frontrunner won confidently against the Bamberg Baskets with 106:84.

The only drawback: three of the four defeats came in the top games, twice against Bayern and once against Alba Berlin. The Niners lost the first game against Alba 90:101. Can they return the favor?

Alba has had an eventful few weeks. The Berliners haven’t won a game in the Euroleague since the end of January. On Tuesday there was a 79:86 win against the currently best team in Europe – Real Madrid. The Spaniards were on the verge of defeat for a long time, but in the end Alba was left empty-handed, as is so often the case in the Euroleague.

Alba professional Johannes Thiemann (30) said: “Unfortunately we always say that. We played well against Monaco. We led for a long time in many games. We often presented ourselves well. Unfortunately that doesn’t help us either. (…) We weren’t clever in the end.”

Just two days later there was the next narrow defeat in the Euroleague. The Berliners lost 84:85 at Anadolu Istanbul.

There have only been victories in the BBL since the beginning of February. The Berliners recently celebrated their biggest win of the season. In front of their own audience, Alba won against newly promoted Tigers Tübingen with 112:69 and thus remains third. However, the Berliners have played three fewer games than Chemnitz. With a win in the BBL top game on Sunday, they could move even closer to the leaders.
