Simon played 15 seasons in the NHL in the 1990s and 2000s. In 864 games, he scored 305 points, but also 1824 penalty minutes. He was suspended eight times, for a total of 65 duels.
He got the hardest patches in 2007. He was suspended for twenty-five games for a punch to the face of Pilsen forward Ryan Hollweg, and thirty for stepping on Jarkk Ruutu.
“Very sad news. Chris was a great teammate, colleague and friend. Always nice. I have many great memories of him. Rest in peace, Si,” former Slovakian striker Peter Bondra, who spent seven seasons with Simon in Washington, said on the X social network. Jaromír Jágr was also Simon’s teammate in the Capitals between 2001 and 2003. The two then met immediately in the 2003/04 season in the NY Rangers.
Simon achieved his greatest success in 1996, when he won the Stanley Cup with Colorado. In the NHL, he also wore the jerseys of Quebec, Washington, Chicago, NY Rangers, Calgary, NY Islanders and Minnesota.
After the end of the NHL in 2008, he worked for five more seasons in the Russian KHL, including in the then Viťaz Chechov, which was a feared team of brawlers. He ended his career in 2013.
