Theis declares championship as the goal
Clippers center Daniel Theis declared the championship as his goal in an interview with SID. “You saw how well we can play when everyone is fit. Now we gradually had small injuries,” explained the world champion. “Until the playoffs it’s about us all being as fit as possible. And then the championship is the goal,” said the 31-year-old ambitiously.
After moving to the Los Angeles Clippers last November, Theis quickly settled in and is an important part of the rotation. Theis and his team are currently in fourth place in the Western Conference.
Wizards stay in Washington
The Washington Wizards will remain in the US capital Washington until 2047. The franchise recently flirted with a move to Virginia. According to information obtained by the Associated Press, there is an agreement between the city and the team in 2007 that extended both parties’ contracts from 2027 to 2047. In return, the city would undertake $500 million in renovations to Capital One Arena. This offer should therefore continue to exist.
Most recently, the owners had considered moving to a new arena in Alexandria near Ronald Reagan Airport. This would have moved the team to Virginia. The cost of a new arena would not have been borne by the team, but by the state of Virginia.
Smith Jr. and Dunn suspended
Kris Dunn of the Utah Jazz was suspended two games by the NBA for starting an altercation with Jabari Smith Jr. of the Houston Rockets and attempting to throw a punch. Smith struck back and was also suspended for one game.
In the second quarter, the two players were physically violent and then sent off after being separated by teammates and referees. Dunn was clear after the game: “I take responsibility for my actions, and whatever the league decides for me, I have to respect that,” the 30-year-old told ESPN. Dunn and Smith will meet again when he returns from suspension.
Kerr in criticism
Warriors coach Steve Kerr is under fire after his team’s 110-114 loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves. The head coach subbed superstar Steph Curry with four minutes left in the third quarter and didn’t bring him back until six minutes before the end of the game. Meanwhile, Minnesota gained a lead that Curry couldn’t catch up with.
“We can’t expect to exhaust Steph game after game,” Kerr defended his rotation afterwards. “We put the burden of this franchise on his shoulders for 15 years. We can’t expect him to play 35 minutes. We’re trying to win the game. And we’re also trying to keep him fresh,” the Warriors coach further argued.
According to Curry, you have to find a good compromise: “I played the whole fourth quarter against Indiana and it didn’t work out [gegen Minnesota] didn’t work either. We have to find something in the middle,” concluded the Warriors star. The team is currently only in 10th place in the Western Conference.
