Montgomery has multiple offers on the table for multi-year contracts

With Opening Day right around the corner, the market for left-handed pitcher Jordan Montgomery “has finally picked up, and is getting competitive,” according to MLB Network Radio’s Jim Bowden.

A source told Bowden that Montgomery has received long-term offers from two teams. Bowden adds that a hire is “probably going to happen this week.” Although the identity of the clubs that submitted bids and the number of teams currently in the bidding for Montgomery are unknown, Bowden wrote that the Yankees and Red Sox “are involved in some way.” He also mentioned the Orioles and D-backs as teams to watch.

Montgomery, who starred in the playoffs and won the World Series with the Rangers last year, has pitched at least 180 innings (including the postseason) in each of the last two years. With many teams experiencing injuries to their starting rotations, the 31-year-old lefty’s reliability would be highly coveted right now.

“You’re not necessarily going to get a short-term deal like we thought, like the one Blake Snell and [Cody] Bellinger received,” Bowden said.
