Two-Time Ironman World Champion Patrick Lange Takes Second Place in First Long-Distance Triathlon of the Year

Two-time Ironman world champion Patrick Lange achieved second place in his first long-distance triathlon this year after a strong running performance. The Bad Wildung native reached the finish 1:36 minutes behind winner Tomas Rodriguez (Mexico/7:42:38 hours).

Lange wrote in advance on Instagram that he was expecting “a great race”: “Especially because I know my way around Texas well. This is a kind of feel-good place for me where my form has returned.”

When he started the season at the Ironman 70.3 Oceanside, Lange only finished in a disappointing 16th place. “With seven degrees outside temperature and 15 degrees water temperature, we saw again that these temperatures don’t suit me and I simply can’t reach my maximum performance,” said the Hawaii champion from 2017 and 2018 to the online portal tri-mag: “Learn in hindsight I get the most out of defeats.”

The highlight of the year for Lange is the Ironman World Championships in Hawaii on October 26th.
