«Major League Baseball has been gathering information since we learned of the allegations involving Shohei Ohtani and Ippei Mizuhari through the media. Earlier today, our Department of Investigation (DOI) began its formal investigation process into the matter,” MLB posted on X.

The investigation came two days after The Times reported that Ohtani’s representatives accused Mizuhara, his now-former performer and close friend, of participating in a “massive theft” of the Dodgers star’s funds.

Mizuhara allegedly used $4.5 million of Ohtani’s money to pay gambling debts to an alleged illegal bookie in California, and Ohtani reportedly agreed to help Mizuhara by sending funds to an associate of the alleged bookie.

Although Ohtani is not facing sanctions so far, the situation remains delicate and under scrutiny. This case raises questions about the integrity of the sport and the vigilance necessary to prevent illegal activities in the world of gaming.
