“Mītava” rugby player continues to grow in Georgia

D. Židelis, together with two more “Livonia” players, Ruslan Sosnar and Gleb Vorobyov, went to Georgia in the middle of January, taking advantage of the excellent opportunity to participate in training for several weeks, strengthening themselves in the Kutaisi first league rugby club of Georgia, which has been a regular participant in the World Cup final tournament since 2003. “Bagrati”. G. Vorobyov and R. Sosnar already returned to Latvia a few weeks ago to continue their studies, but the best of this trio – D. Židelis – continues to grow in Georgia.

Latvian players have received good words from the head coach and also the regional team manager. Jelgava rugby player D. Židelis, who has played on the field in four of the last five games, but remained on the reserve in one, received the most praise. In addition, in the last game, which was last weekend, where “Bagrati” suffered a loss 5:22, Dāvid was entrusted to spend all 80 minutes on the field.

“The training process is very intense. Training takes place both in the morning and in the evening, and the rest of the time is given to go to the weight room. In training, a lot of combinations are worked out and various game situations are played out. There is a strong emphasis on defense. In every practice when we play, the most important thing is a strong defensive line. In every training session, I learn something new and improve my general understanding of exactly how rugby-15 is played,” says D. Židelis.

“Our club is very proud of David’s achievements. He has always been a very dedicated and focused player. He has been the captain of his age group for several years, was the captain of two Latvian U-18 national teams, and last season he played in all possible Latvian rugby national teams, where he could apply – rugby-7 for men, rugby-7 for U-18 youth and rugby -15 adults,” the head coach of Jelgava club “Mītava” Roberts Bondarenko is proud of his student’s achievements.

The coach emphasizes that the contribution of David’s family is very important. “Davida’s family has been an invaluable support on the way to this success. Dávid has a younger brother, Gustavs, who also plays rugby, and a younger sister, Grieta. The family is very close to rugby and this is a huge drive for David. Even before going to Georgia, Dāvid had the best training attendance of all the students in the club. He is an excellent example for his peers and the club’s youngest aspirants,” emphasizes R. Bondarenko.

The head coach of RK “Mītava” is grateful to rugby club “Livonia” for the development of his student. “A huge thank you to Livonia for giving Davida the opportunity to prove himself in the strong Georgian league and play rugby there. In my opinion, it will be a great boost for him,” says Davida’s coach.
