Mexican Futsal Team Advances to Semifinals at 2024 World Trisomy Games

Monterrey.- The Mexican futsal team for the 2024 World Trisomy Games today, Saturday, beat Portugal 2-1 and is ready for the semifinal against Turkey, the host country of the Olympic championship for people with Down Syndrome.

This victory on the third day of the futsal competition took place in the city of Antalya, Turkey, during the 8:30 a.m. (Turkish time zone) match.

Prior to this, yesterday on the second day of competition, the Mexican parathletes triumphed against Italy, with a score of 6-2 goals.

However, on the same day they were also beaten by Turkey 2-7, so they will need to redouble their efforts to beat the host country in the semi-final tomorrow, Sunday, March 24.

On the first day of competition, Mexico had to compete against Brazil, but lost with a score 7-3.

This year, the World Trisomy Games present their eleventh edition, which includes sports disciplines such as athletics, basketball, futsal, judo, tennis, table tennis, swimming and gymnastics.

A total of 28 countries compete in the World Cup competition with an Olympic format, among which are England, the United States, Switzerland, Hungary, France, Spain, Russia, Japan, Portugal, Italy, Poland, Canada, Egypt, Uruguay, Bolivia and Argentina.

The last day of competition for para-athletes with Down Syndrome is next March 26.

Neoleonese also compete

On Thursday, Mexico had its first medalists in the paraswimming category, who are originally from Nuevo León: Mariana Escamilla, Melissa Alvarado, Constanza Martínez and Paola Veloz.

The people from New Leon also have to compete, Samuel Ballesteros, in table paratennis, and Sanjuanita Vargas, in para-athletics.

According to a statement from the State Institute of Physical Culture and Sports (INDE), all of them left for the Eurasian country on March 17. The tickets were paid for by the parents of the athletes.
